"THE GREEN SEA"
Location: Seestadt Aspern in Vienna. Austria
Developer: ÖVW - Austrian "Volkswohnwerk Gemeinnützige GmbH"
Scope: the competition area includes the two southern building plots F12 and F13 in the "Seecarree" development area
of Seestadt Aspern, each building plat being an independent processing area
Design: a residentail complex, a "kindergarten" and commercial space
Timeline: Nov 2023 - Feb 2024
Project partner: in cooperation with wup ZT GmbH
The so called "Loo" principle of the house on MIchaelerplatz, the aestethic and at the same time content related contrast of the base to the upper floors, combined with the cpnceptual idea of a surging inner courtyard that surges up to the edges of the house - like a sea - determines our design for the building plot F12 in seestadt.
THe "kindergarten", located north of the building site, is planned as a single storey building in part.
On one hand, it means that the "kindergarten" roof can be used as an open space for playing and on the other hand, it creates a spatial connection to the interior of the district and a continuation of the "green side" into the roof of the kindergarten.
The unbuilt inner courtyard is planned as an "open space" without predefined paved paths.
The greenery extends to the edges of the houses and the private outdorr areas of the ground floor apartments are designed as walkways into "a green sea". It creates a gentle passway which turns the courtyard into a residential space for all residents.
"The green sea" is another component of "Seestadt Aspern" - a project that knows how to fit in, it uses and develops the qualities and potentials of the location.
