In 2010, a property developer competition was launched on the former Nordbahnhof site, one of the largest inner-city development areas in Vienna, the main aim of which was to promote intercultural living. The winning entry was created as a cooperation between two architectural offices, each of which developed a separate, eight-story building on the planning area.
The positioning along the streets creates a clear spatial definition of the building block. The inside of the corner plot remains completely undeveloped and offers a lot of space for the design of a shared courtyard garden. The square, which is oriented towards the neighboring Bednarpark, acts as a link between the two residential buildings and offers space for encounters and exchanges.
The 51 residential units of the component with sizes of 50-120 sqm as well as diverse floor plans are designed for residents with different needs. In particular, the move-in of young people or New Viennese is to be favored by the low cost of own funds.
The spacious elevation of the residential floors generates the characteristic appearance of a floating building and enables a largely public use of the ground floor zone, which reinforces the urban character of the district.
In 2015, the project was awarded the recognition award for assemblies of the City of Vienna Housing Award.
